The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers picked up another win when they went on the road on Tuesday, Jan. 27 and defeated the Waseca Bluejays 80-53.

Though BEA’s overall record is only 4-14, they are 4-4 in their last eight games.

Six different Bucs made three pointers against the Bluejays, led by Myla Eastman who sank six shots from behind the arc and finished with 22 points. Eastman also had 10 rebounds to record a double-double for the game.

Waseca led the majority of the first half before a late rally by BEA gave the Bucs the lead. The Bluejays were up by seven points at 23-16 when Madelyn Humburg’s drive to the hoop ignited a 13-0 BEA run which gave the Maroon and Gold a 29-23 lead.

After Humburg’s basket, Eastman drained a trey to give the Bucs 21 points. A steal by BEA’s Ella Swanson led to another three-pointer by Eastman and vaulted the Bucs into a 24-23 lead.

A drive by Swanson across the lane led to two more points and then Eastman capped off the run with another basket from behind the arc which had the Bucs on top 29-23.

BEA ended the first half with another trey by Eastman to take a 40-34 lead at the intermission.

The Bucs slowly began to pull away from the Bluejays in the second half.

Lola Lundquist went to the line to shoot two free throws. She made her first attempt but missed the second shot. However, the scrappy guard came up with the ball after her missed free throw and put it in the hoop for two points. Swanson added a traditional three-point play and Eastman drained another three-pointer to extend the Bucs’ lead to 51-37 early in the final stanza.

BEA kept playing hard and did not allow Waseca a chance to get back into the game.

The Bucs’ biggest lead of the contest came at the final buzzer when Jessi James sank a trey to give BEA a 27-point win at 80-53.

BEA was 14-for-32 (43.8 percent) from inside the arc and 15-for-40 (37.5 percent) from outside the arc. They attempted 11 free throws and made seven (63.6 percent).

Waseca was 9-for-36 (25 percent) from two-point range and 9-for-32 (28.1 percent) from three-point range. They made eight of their 13 (61.5 percent) free throws.

The Bluejays had 51 rebounds to 43 for the Bucs. However, BEA only had seven turnovers compared to 19 for Waseca. The Bucs also had 14 steals to only three for the Bluejays.

In addition to Eastman’s 22 points, Swanson tallied 19, Lundquist had 17 while Emersen Weir and Humburg each finished with eight.

Eastman’s 10 rebounds led the Bucs. Lundquist recorded seven rebounds, Weir and Swanson each had six and Emily Schrader had five.

Lundquist led the team with eight assists while Eastman had the most steals with six.

BEA was on the road on Jan. 29 to take on Tri-City United. They had a home game versus St. James Area on Friday, Jan. 30 and then were scheduled to travel to Luverne on Monday, Feb. 2 for a make-up game against the Cardinals.

Look for the results of those games in the next edition of the Faribault County Register.
