Rebels’ second-half rally comes up short against the Wolverines

Sibley East 70, USC 57

The United South Central Rebels boys basketball team faced a hot-shooting Sibley East Wolverine’s team, and ended up falling by a final score of 70-57 on Friday, Jan. 23.

The score was 51-26 at the end of the first half, and the Rebels actually outscored the Wolverines 31 to 19 in the second half, but it was not enough to catch up.

Leading the charge for the Rebels was Jayden Barnick who had a double-double in the game, with 23 points and 15 rebounds.

Landon Beck added eight points and Body Steinhauer and Ryder Anderson each had six points in the game.

The Rebels were 15 of 27 for 2-pointers (56 percent), 5 of 30 for 3-point tries (17 percent) and 12 of 21 from the free-throw line (57 percent).

The Wolverines shot 63 percent, 20-for-32 for inside the arc, 67 percent, 6-for-9 from outside the arc, and 41 percent, 12-for-29 from the charity stripe.

USC out-rebounded Sibley East 34 to 25, had 14 assists to their 25, 11 steals to their 14, 22 turnovers to their 16, and each team had three blocks.

Triton 82, USC 38

While the United South Central Rebels had no one hit double figures in scoring, the Triton Cobras had three players in double figures and one of those had 43 points in the game.

The Rebels were behind 53 to 14 at the end of the first half, and ended up losing 82-38, in the game on Jan. 22, in Wells.

Brennan Olson and Wyatt Sparks led the Rebels with eight points each. Jayden Barnick added six and Brody Steinhauer had five.

Pierce Petersohn scored the 43 points for the Cobras, more than half their team total.

The Rebels made nine of their 26 2-point shots (35 percent), four of their 15 3-point tries (27 percent) and eight of their 13 free throws (62 percent).

The Cobras were 30-for-48 for 2-point attempts (63 percent), 5-for-16 for 3-pointers (31 percent) and 7-for-15 for free-throws (47percent).

USC had 24 rebounds to Triton’s 36, 10 assists to their 24, three steals to their 22, one block to their four and 28 turnovers to their 11.
