St. Clair defeats USC in boys basketball

Rebels also drop games against Cleveland and Bethlehem Academy

The United South Central boys basketball team took on St. Clair on Tuesday night Feb. 10 and the Cyclones lived up to their name as they blew past the Rebels 75-43.

While the second half was pretty competitive, with St. Clair outscoring USC just 28 to 23, the first half had the Cyclones blowing past the Rebels 47-20.

The Rebels had 12 different players score during the game, but none reached double figures.

Ryder Anderson and Jayden Barnick both scored nine points in the game. Landon Beck added six points and nine other Rebels scored three or fewer points in the game.

USC made 10 of 28 2-point shots in the game (36 percent), six of 26 3-point tries (23 percent) and five of 14 free throws (36 percent).

St. Clair was 21-for-39 from inside the arc (54 percent), 7-for-26 for shots outside the arc (27 percent) and 12-for-17 for free-throw attempts (71 percent).

The Rebels had 27 rebounds to the Cyclones’ 43, eight steals to their seven, seven blocks to their one, 18 turnovers to their 15, and both teams had 10 assists in the game.

The Rebels next game was set to be on Friday, Feb. 13, when they host Waterville-Elysian-Morristown.

This week they host Rochester STEM on Tuesday, Feb. 17, and travel to Janesville on Friday, Feb. 20, to take on the Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Bulldogs.

Cleveland 73, USC 55

The United South Central Rebel boys basketball team took on the Cleveland Clippers on Monday night, Feb. 9, in Cleveland, and came out with a 73 to 55 loss.

The Rebels were 15 points behind at the end of the first half, 34-19, but played even with the Clippers in the second half, with Cleveland scoring 39 points and USC 36.

Two Rebels hit double figures in scoring, with Jayden Barnick getting 16 and Wyatt Sparks 10. Ryder Anderson had eight points and Seth Kayser seven.

One highlight for the night was the Rebels going to the free-throw line 20 times and making 18 of their shots, for a 90 percent completion percentage.

USC was 11-for-23 for 2-pointers (48 percent) and 5-for-26 for 3-pointers (19 percent).

The Clippers were 24-for-55 for 2-point shots (44 percent), 6-for-23 for 3-point tries (26 percent) and 7-for-16 from the charity stripe (44 percent).

The Rebels had 33 rebounds to the Clippers’ 41, 12 assists to their 17, eight steals to their 12, seven blocks to their three and 26 turnovers to their 13.

BA 66, USC 65

The USC Rebels fought back from a 15-point halftime deficit to fall just one point short in their game against the Faribault Bethlehem Academy Cardinals on Friday, Feb. 6.

The Rebels trailed 41-26 at the end of the first half, but outscored the Cardinals 39-25 in the second half. But, they still lost by one point, 66-65.

The Rebels had three players in double figures for scoring, but the Cardinals had four players.

For USC, Ryder Anderson led the way with 16 points, while Landon Beck added 14 and Jayden Barnick had 13.

The Cards had two players with 14 points and two players with 12.

The Rebels made at least 50 percent for all of their shots in the game. They made 16 of their 32 tries from inside the arc for exactly 50 percent, 10 of their 19 attempts from outside the 3-point arc for 53 percent, and three of their six free throws for 50 percent.

The Cardinals were 20-for-45 for 2-pointers (44 percent), 7-for-19 for 3-pointers (37 percent) and 5-for-11 for free throws (45 percent).

USC had 26 rebounds to BA’s 34, two blocks to their one, 20 turnovers to their 13, and both teams had 17 assists and nine steals.
