Rebels fall to the Giants and Bulldogs

USC will host Mountain Lake-Comfrey in first round of playoffs

The United South Central Rebel boys basketball team played hard and had three players hit triple digits in scoring, but they ended up losing their final game of the regular season.

The Rebels lost 76-63 to the Le Sueur-Henderson Giants on Monday, Feb. 23.

Next up for the Rebels was a play-in game for the Section 2A Tournament that was set for Friday, Feb. 27. The No. 15-seeded Rebels are scheduled to host Mountain Lake-Comfrey seeded No. 18.

The winner of that game will face No. 2-seeded Madelia in a game set for Tuesday, March 3, at 7 p.m., in Madelia.

Against Le Sueur-Henderson, USC kept the game close, with the score at the end of the first half 35-31 in favor of the Giants. USC scored 32 points in the second half, but LS-H scored 41.

Landon Beck led the Rebels with 23 points. Jayden Barnick had 18 points and eight rebounds, and Ryder Anderson added 10 points to the total.

The Giants also had three players hit double figures, with tallies of 30, 23 and 11.

As a team, the Rebels were 16-for-38 for two-point shots (42 percent), 7-for-26 from the three-point line (27 percent) and 10-for-13 for free throws (77 percent).

The Giants made 28 of their 55 attempts for two-pointers (51 percent) and just three of their 15 three-point shots (20 percent). They made 61 percent of their free throws, 11-for-18.

USC had 29 rebounds to LS-H’s 50, 15 assists to their nine, eight steals to their seven, five blocks to their four and 13 turnovers to their 17.

JWP 73, USC 35

The United South Central Rebels had a tough time scoring against the Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Bulldogs on Friday night, Feb. 20.

The Rebels were behind 43 to 10 at the end of the first half, and ended up losing the game 73-35.

Jayden Barnick led the team in scoring with 12 points. Ryder Anderson had 10.

USC shot just 35 percent from the field. They made 12 of 34 two-point attempts (35 percent), three of 14 three-point tries (21 percent) and two of five from the free-throw line (40 percent).

JWP was 25-for-37 for two-pointers (68 percent), 5-for-19 for three-pointers (26 percent) and 8-for-10 from the charity stripe (40 percent).

The Rebels had 20 rebounds to the Bulldogs’ 32, 13 assists to their 15, six steals to their 14, 20 turnovers to their 12 and both teams had two blocks.
