BEA tennis team falls to St. Peter in opener

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer boys tennis team had a rocky opening to their season, losing 5-2 to the St. Peter Saints at an away meet on Tuesday, April 7. While the Bucs found some success in singles, winning two of their three matches, their doubles teams lost all three matches.

Buc Ryder Dutton handily defeated Saint Jaxson Schaefer in No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 6-1.

Devin Haase put up a good fight, but was ultimately defeated by Ashton Baker in No. 2 singles. Baker’s winning scores were 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.

David Bautista defeated Brody Kennedy in No. 3 singles, winning 6-2, 7-5.

Mitchell Stevermer and Noah Hanson started out strong, but were ultimately defeated by Enzo Valentini and Kale Schmidt in No. 1 doubles, losing 7-6, 3-6, 4-10.

Nolan Hagedorn and Jack Bell were defeated in No. 2 doubles by Elijah Cherland-Narum and Smuder Jaego, losing 6-2, 6-2.

Caleb Goshorn and Hayden Prestegard were defeated in No. 3 doubles by Sam Baxa and Caleb Gilbertson, losing 7-6, 6-4.

The Bucs hit the road for their next meet against Waseca, which will be held on Friday, April 10. Look for these results and more in a future edition of the Register.
