It wasn’t the nicest weather to be playing a baseball game but the game went on anyway when the visiting Jackson County Central Huskies came to Blue Earth on April to take on the Buccaneers at Veterans Field at the Faribault County Fairgrounds. With the temperature hovering around 40 degrees and the brisk winds blowing from the south, the conditions were uncomfortable for players and fans alike.

The weather did not seem to affect the Huskies who pounded out 14 hits against the Buccaneers’ pitching staff on their way to a 22-0 five-inning shutout victory over BEA.

JCC scored one run in the bottom of the first inning on a double and a single against BEA starting pitcher Brody Eckmann.

The Huskies exploded for seven runs in the second inning when they sent 11 men to the plate. JCC combined four singles, a double two walks and a hit batsman to take an 8-0 lead after one and a half innings of play.

JCC went on to add four runs in the top of the third inning, two runs in the top of the fourth and eight more runs in the top of the fifth inning to account for their 22 runs.

Meanwhile, the Huskies’ pitchers held the Bucs to only two hits in the game and they both came in the bottom of the first inning. Myles Moore had the Bucs’ first hit when he led off the game with a line drive single to left field. Two outs later BEA got their second and final hit of the contest when Logan Rademaker delivered another line drive single to the left fielder.

In addition to yielding 14 hits, the BEA pitching staff also gave up 10 walks while striking out four batters. Starter Brody Eckmann, who pitched the first two innings, was charged with the loss.

JCC’s pitchers did not issue any walks and struck out 10 Buccaneer batters.

After hosting the New Richland-Harland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers on April 10, the Bucs were scheduled to be back home again on Monday, April 13 when Waterville-Elysian-Watertown-Morristown comes to Blue Earth for a non-conference game. BEA’s busy week will see them traveling to Fairmont on Tuesday, April 14 to take on the Cardinals before hosting the Luverne Cardinals for a doubleheader on Friday, April 17.
