The Blue Earth Area girls golf team traveled to Shoreland Country Club for the six-team St. Peter Invitational on Tuesday, April 14.

Byron finished on top of the leaderboard in the team competition with a score of 385. They were followed by St. Peter in second place with 397, Blue Earth Area in third with 402, Fairmont in fourth with 423, Redwood Valley placed fifth with a 437 and Waseca finished sixth with 471.

The Bucs’ Katelyn Storbeck was the medalist for the meet with a 14-over-par score of 83 to hold off the second place golfer, Kaden Johnson of Byron, who shot an 85.

Storbeck had three pars on both the front-nine and the back-nine.

Lola Lundquist had a score of 104 for the Bucs to finish 13th and Averi Blair shot a 106 to finish in a two-way tie for 14th. Blair recorded two pars on the day.

McKinley Hanson provided the third-best score for BEA with a round of 109 which put her in 18th place. Hanson had her first birdie of the year on the par-3 hole No. 5.

Also golfing for BEA were Hailey Hanson who had one par on the day to finish in a three-way tie for 19th place with a score of 110 and Grace Schavey who carded a 118 in her first varsity golf meet.

The BEA girls and boys golf teams golfed in a multi-school meet in New Ulm on April 16 before battling Martin County West at Fox Lake Golf Course on April 17. The Bucs will compete in a Big South Division event on Monday, April 20. The boys will golf at Jackson while the girls meet will be held at Luverne.

BEA vs. Maple River

The Blue Earth Area golf teams saw their first action of the season when they played host to fellow Section 2AA member Maple River at Riverside Town and Country Club on Friday, April 10.

Girls Results

Blue Earth Area had a team score of 206 while the Maple River Eagles did not field a complete team.

As far as individual scores go, the Eagles’ Rebecca Walters was the medalist with a five-over-par score of 41 which was one stroke better than BEA’s Katelyn Storbeck, who finished with a six-over-par score of 42 on the nine-hole course.

Walters combined six pars with a triple bogey on hole No. 4 and double bogeys on holes Nos. 1 and 2 for her winning score.

Storbeck had an eagle on the par-five ninth hole but had bogies on holes Nos. 1, 2, 5 and 6 and double bogies on hole Nos. 4 and 8.

The Bucs’ McKinley Hanson finished in third place with a score of 50, which was 14 shots over par. Hanson parred two holes during the meet.

The Eagles’ other golfer for the day, Kylie Walters, had three pars to finish in fourth place with a 15-over-par score of 51.

Lola Lundquist and Averi Blair provided BEA with their other two scores. Lundquist carded a 56 while Blair finished with a 58.

Also golfing for the Bucs were Hailey Hanson who also finished with a 58 and Haedyn Cole who scored a 65.

Boys Results

The BEA boys opened their season with a 21-stroke victory over the Maple River Eagles. The Bucs’ team total was 175 while the Eagles finished with 196.

Cole Becker of BEA led all golfers with a two-over-par score of 38 to claim medalist honors. The junior Buccaneer parred seven of the nine holes while having bogeys on hole No. 2 and hole No. 8.

BEA’s Gavin Christenson took home runner-up honors for the day with a seven-over-par score of 43. Christenson parred the second, third, fifth and ninth holes.

Maple River’s Noah Walters finished in third place with a 44. He had two pars on the day.

The Bucs’ Ian Viland birdied hole No. 3 and finished in fourth place with a 46.

Nolan Walker of the Eagles and Nathan Casias of the Bucs tied for fifth place with each golfer carding a 48. Walker and Casias each had one par on the day.

Finishing in a tie for seventh place were Ian Olson of Maple River and Jacob Murray of BEA. Each golfer carded a 50. Olson’s round included one birdie while Murray had one par.

Also golfing for the Bucs was Reed Sturtz who finished with a 62. Other Eagle golfers were Mason Barr with a 54 and Owen Barr with a 63.
