USC boy golfers reel off three straight wins

Squad picks up victories over Maple River, NRHEG and Hayfield

The United South Central boys golf team beat the Maple River golf team by 34 strokes when they competed at the Oakview Golf Course on Tuesday, April 14.

The Rebels swept the top four spots in the competition on their way to a 180 to 214 victory.

Brennan Olson continued his series of medalist honors this season by shooting a 38 to lead the USC team.

Ryder Anderson shot a 45 to take second place, Octavio Hernandez scored a 48 for third place, and Colten Husfeldt and Jaxon Hart shot identical 49’s and were tied for fourth place.

The other USC varsity golfer was Carter Wigern who shot a 61 and came in at 10th place.

The win put the Rebels’ season record at 3-1.

Their next golf meet was scheduled for Thursday, April 16, when they were set to host New Richland-Hartland-Ellendate-Geneva at the Oakview Golf Club in rural Freeborn.

USC Girls Golf Results

The United South Central girls golf team had a full team for the first time this season, and played a close match against Maple River, falling 261 to 273 to the Eagles.

Bella Roberts led the way for the Rebels with a score of 61, which was good for third place.

Brynlee Olson and Lucy Woodring both shot an even 70 and were in a tie for fourth place. Caitlin McQueen shot a 72 for sixth place, to round out the Rebels team score.

Jayleigh Steckelberg shot a 79 for seventh place.

The USC girls next golf meet is also on Thursday, April 16 against NRHEG.

USC vs New Richland

Despite some stormy weather that hit later in the evening, the United South Central boys and girls golf teams managed to finish nine holes before the storms hit on Monday evening, April 13.

USC Boys Golf Results

The USC boys came in with a team score of 179 to defeat New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva who carded a team tally of 192.

The golf meet was held at the Riverview Golf Club in New Richland.

USC senior Brennan Olson carded a 40 which was good for his third medalist honors of the young season.

Rebels Octavio Hernandez and Colten Husfeldt both came in with a score of 45 which put them into a tie for fourth place.

USC’s Carter Wigern was in sixth place with a score of 49 for the fourth team score.

Jaxon Hart was right behind with a 50 for seventh place, and Ryder Anderson had a 51 for eighth place.

Other USC junior varsity golfers included Dylan Parks with a 51 and Harrison Chandler with a 59.

“Luke Parks, Carter Miller and Ayden Roberts also played,” coach Brad Heggen said. “But their paper scorecards were not turned in due to storm moving in with lightning, thunder, hail and tornado warnings – yikes!”

The USC boys were set to play the very next day, Tuesday, April 14, at Oakview Golf Club in rural Freeborn – under hopefully better weather conditions.

USC Girls Golf Results

The USC girls also played at New Richland on Monday, April 13, and had an incomplete team score against NRHEG, which had a team score of 257.

Brynlee Olson took third place with a score of 68. Bella Roberts shot a 73 which was good for sixth place, and Jayleigh Steckelberg scored a 98 for seventh place.

Junior varsity golfers Lucy Woodring, Caitlin McQueen and Zaylee Pick had incomplete scores due to the storm.

The varsity girls next scheduled meet was on Tuesday, April 14 at Oakview Golf Club by Freeborn, but the junior varsity girls were set to play on Tuesday, April 14 at the The Oaks Golf Club near Hayfield.

USC vs Hayfield

After having lost their first match of the year by two strokes, the United South Central Rebels boys golf team bounced back and won their second match by 20 strokes.

USC downed Hayfield by a score o 181 to 201, on Thursday, April 9, at the Oaks Golf Club in Hayfield.

USC senior Brennan Olson shot a 38, and earned medalist honors for the second time this year.

Three other Rebels shot in the 40s. Octavio Hernandez was in third place with a score of 45. Colten Husfeldt and Ryder Anderson both shot a 49 to tie for fourth place.

Other USC varsity players were Jaxon Hart who shot a 50 and took sixth place, and Dylan Parks who was in 11th place with a score of 60.

The Rebels next golf match was set for Monday, April 13, at Riverview Golf Club in rural New Richland, weather dependent.

The Rebels are now 1-1 for the year.

USC Girls Golf Results

Both the United South Central and Hayfield girls’ golf teams had incomplete team scores when they faced each other on Thursday, April 9, at the Oaks Golf Club in Hayfeld.

Carly Bronson, a Hayfield senior, was medalist with a score of 41.

USC’s Bella Roberts shot a 61 and was in second place. Brynlee Olson was in fifth place with a score of 75.

Next up for the Rebel girls is a match on Monday, April 13, at Riverview Golf Club in rural New Richland.
