Rebel baseball team improves to 5-0
They defeat Martin County West 13-3 after squeaking by WEM 11-10
Mason Atchley picked up the win for the United South Central Rebels when they defeated Martin County West 13-3 on Tuesday, April 21.
The United South Central baseball team scored at least one run in every inning of their game against Martin County West, on their way to a 13-3 victory on Tuesday, April 21. With the win, USC improves their record to five wins with zero losses.
The Rebels scored three runs in the first inning, two in the second, four in the third, one in the fourth and three in the fifth and final inning. The Mavericks scored one run in the fourth inning and two in the fifth.
USC out hit MCW 6 to 4. The Rebels had one error and the Mavericks had four.
Mason Haugh led the way going 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI. Drew Bullerman had one hit, but it was a triple and scored three runs. Also getting one hit each were Keith Bullerman, Seth Kayser and Rylan Clay. Bullerman and Kayser each had a double for their one hit.
Mason Atchley was the starting pitcher for the Rebels and pitched four innings. He gave up three hits and one run, walked one batter and struck out five.
Josie Schroeder came in for the fifth inning and gave up one hit, two runs, walked two batters and struck out one.
Next up for USC was a game scheduled for Thursday, April 23 at Blooming Prairie. On Saturday, April 25 they were set to host Lyle-Pacelli.
This week they will host Hayfield on Monday, April 27, play at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton on Thursday, April 30 and host Southland on Friday, May 1.
USC 11, WEM 10
Kolt Bullerman collected three hits in five at bats, as the United South Central Rebels defeated the Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Buccaneers 11-10 on Thursday, April 16. Bullerman doubled in the sixth inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the fifth inning.
The Rebels collected 10 hits and Waterville-Elysian-Morristown had 11 in the high-scoring affair.
The Rebels made the score 4-3 in the top of the fourth after one run scored on a balk, and an error scored two runs.
WEM tied the game at four in the bottom of the fifth. In the top of the sixth, USC broke up the tie when Mason Haugh singled, scoring one run. Then a double by Bullerman followed to extend the lead to 8-4.
The Buccaneers tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. A bases loaded double by Mason Atchley gave United South Central the lead, 11-8, in the top of the 10th.
Mitchell Meyer was the starting pitcher for the Rebels and gave up two hits and three runs (two earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out six and walking two. Rylan Clay and Haugh each appeared in relief with Haugh getting the win for the Rebels.
United South Central collected 10 hits in the game. Atchley and Bullerman each drove in three runs for USC. Clay collected two hits in four at bats. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game.
Next up for the Rebels was a game on Tuesday, April 21, when they were set to host Martin County West, and a game on Thursday, April 23 when they were set to travel to Blooming Prairie.
