The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers and the Fairmont Cardinals met on the volleyball court in Blue Earth on Sept. 15 for a Big South Conference showdown.

Although the Bucs improved their score each game of the match, it was the Cardinals who went home with a three-game sweep, winning 25-15, 25-16, 25-23.

Cassandra Hagedorn led BEA in set assists with 13 while Hailey Hanson, Samantha Meyers, Averi Blair and Madie Redepenning each finished with four kills.

Taylynn Amundson contributed 11 digs during the match.

BEA 3, ML/GHEC/T 0

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers picked up their first volleyball win of the season when they went on the road to take on the Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman Jaguars. The Bucs swept the Jags in three straight sets 25-17, 25-18, 25-18.

Blue Earth Area never trailed in the first set. With Cassandra Hagedorn serving the Bucs won the first point following a lengthy volley. The Jaguars then had trouble handling Hagedorn’s next two serves and BEA had a 3-0 lead before ML/GHEC/T got on the board with their first point of the set.

The Bucs’ lead stood at 6-5 when a couple of hits by Hailey Hanson and a stuff by Hagedorn helped the Maroon and Gold extend their lead to 11-5.

The Jags got as close as three points a number of times until the Bucs got a side-out and with Reese Olson serving, rattled off five more points to take a 23-14 lead before closing out the set with a 25-17 victory.

The Bucs got off to fast start in the second set. With Hagedorn at the service line, BEA jumped out to an 8-0 lead before ML/GHEC/T scored their first point of the second set.

BEA’s biggest lead of the second set came at 20-10 and they went on to take that set 25-18.

The Jaguars got their first lead of the night when they won the opening point of the third set.

ML/GHEC/T was holding on to a three-point lead at 15-12 when BEA scored eight consecutive points with Olson once again at the service line to propel the Bucs into a 20-15 lead.

BEA finished off the set and the match with a 25-18 victory.

Olson finished the night with six service aces followed by Hagedorn with three and Caitlin Eitzmann with one.

Kyannah Brandt led the defense with 10 digs followed by Hagedorn with eight, Taylynn Amundson with six and Olson and Hanson with five each.

Hagedorn tallied 17 set assists during the match.

Hanson led the Bucs with eight kills followed by Eitzmann with four and Hagedorn and Averi Blair with three each.

Blue Earth Area will travel to Pipestone to take on the Pipestone Area Arrows on Sept. 22. Look for the results of that match in next week’s Faribault County Register.
