When Michael Pham was appointed by new Pope Leo XIV as the Bishop of San Diego, it was the completion of a journey that started a long time ago, and included a few years as a resident of Blue Earth. Bishop Michael Pham was born Cuong Pham in Da Nang, Vietnam, on Jan. 22, 1967. When Cuong (now Michael) Pham was 13 years-old, in 1980, he fled Vietnam as a refugee, along with his older sister and younger brother. They first went to a refugee camp in Malaysia.
