Rebel softball team picks up three wins

USC allows only one run in defeating Maple River, MVL and JWP

The United South Central softball team scored early and often during their game on Monday, May 4, when they traveled to Mapleton to play the Maple River Eagles.

The Rebels won the game 8 to 1, and scored in nearly every inning.

USC got two runs in the first inning and another one run in the second. They they scored another single run in the fourth and fifth innings and three more in the sixth.

Maple River scored their one run in the bottom of the seventh, with a home run.

The Rebels had nine hits to the Eagles one. Ivy O’Rourke and Alivia Bruegger had two hits each, and Mariah Anderson, Grace Walton, Reanna Obermeyer and Olivia Bird had one hit each.

Anderson nailed a double, Bruegger hit a triple and Walton and O’Rourke both hit homers.

Anderson pitched all seven innings and gave up the one hit and one run, walked one Eagle batter and struck out 21 of the 23 batters for Maple River.

Reagan FitzSimmons pitched all seven innings for the Eagles, giving up the eight runs and nine hits, walked five batters, and struck out 11.

The Rebels were next scheduled to play Kenyon-Wanamingo on Thursday, May 7 and this week at Alden-Conger on Tuesday, May 12 and at Medford on Thursday May 14, before hosting LCWM on Friday, May 15.

USC 7, MVL 0

The Rebels hosted Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Friday, May 1 and won the game 7-0.

The Rebels got two runs in the first inning, then added one in the second and four in the fifth.

USC had seven hits while holding MVL to one hit. Carissa Hanson went 2-for-3 to lead the Rebels. Brielle Obermeyer, Mariah Anderson, Alivia Bruegger, Grace Walton and Reanna Obermeyer all had one hit, with Bruegger’s and Anderson’s being doubles.

Anderson pitched all seven innings for the Rebels, allowing no runs, just one hit, walked no batters and struck out 16.

USC 2, JWP 0

It was a close game for the United South Central softball team when they hosted the Bulldogs of Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton on Thursday, April 30.

The Rebels won the game 2-0. Both teams had three hits, but the Rebels were able to turn theirs into two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Mariah Anderson, Hannah Niebuhr and Alivia Bruegger each had a hit in the game, with Brueggers hit being a double.

Anderson pitched all seven innings and allowed no runs and the three hits, walked on batter and struck out 19.

Two JWP pitchers accounted for allowing three hits and two runs and each one struck out one batter.
