By Kevin Mertens - Staff Writer | May 10, 2026

BEA’s Myles Moore fields a ground ball from his shortstop position in the Bucs’ game against Pipestone.

The Fairmont Cardinals overpowered the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers in a Big South Conference baseball clash in Blue Earth on May 5. The final score showed the Cardinals winning 26-3 in five innings.

After taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Fairmont erupted for 14 more runs in their half of the second inning to take a 16-0 lead.

The Cardinals finished the game with 30 hits while the Bucs were held to three hits.

John Nelson, Jacob Gambell and Brody Haugh each had a hit for BEA with Nelson driving in the Bucs’ only run of the game.

BEA played host to Redwood Valley in a doubleheader on Thursday, May 7. Look for the results of those games in next week’s edition of the Faribault County Register.

A big second inning by the Arrows was the major blow in the first game of the doubleheader.

After a scoreless first inning, the Arrows pushed five runs across home plate in their second at-bat on their way to a 9-1 victory in the opening game of the twin bill.

Pipestone Area added two runs to their total in the top of the third inning and single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

The Bucs lone run came in the bottom of the third inning. After singles by Myles Moore and Jacob Gambell and a walk to John Nelson loaded the bases, Logan Rademaker was hit by a pitch to force in Moore with the run.

Brody Eckmann took the loss after pitching six and a third innings. Bennett Zabel relieved Eckmann in the seventh inning and recorded the final two outs.

The final stat line showed Pipestone Area scoring nine runs on 17 hits while BEA tallied one run on eight hits.

Gambell led the Bucs with two hits.

The Arrows were the home team on the scoreboard for the second game of the doubleheader and they wasted no time taking the lead. After holding the Bucs scoreless in the top of the first inning, Pipestone Area scored four runs in their half of the inning to take a 4-0 lead on their way to an 11-1 victory.

BEA responded by scoring a run in the top of the second inning to cut Pipestone Area’s advantage to 4-1. However, the Arrows matched the Bucs by also scoring one run in the second inning before adding three more runs in the third inning, one run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to account for their 11 runs.

Pipestone Area finished the game with 15 hits while BEA had three hits. Myles Moore, Brody Haugh and Nolan Sturtz each had one hit for the Bucs.

Moore hurled three innings for BEA with Bennett Zabel coming in for the final inning.
