Vikings’ late rally defeats Rebels 5-3

The United South Central Rebel baseball team led through almost all of their game against Hayfield on Wednesday night, April 29. But, they lost it in the seventh inning, falling 5-3 to the Vikings.
USC scored three runs in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead, but Hayfield scored one run in the top of the third to cut the lead to 3-1.
Neither team scored in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but then the Vikings scored four runs in the top of the seventh for the 5-3 win.
The game was a makeup game that had been scheduled for two days earlier, Monday, April 27.
The Vikings out hit the Rebels 12-4 in the game. USC’s Colson Rauenhorst led the team going 2-for-2 at the plate. Mason Haugh and Seth Kayser got USC’s other two hits.
Riley Stevermer pitched six innings and gave up three runs on eight hits, walked one batter and struck out four.
Rylan Clay came in for one inning on the mound and gave up two runs on four hits, walked one batter and struck out two.
Two Viking pitchers combined to give up the three runs, all earned, on four hits and walked three and struck out eight Rebel batters.
Neither team had an error in the game.
Next up for the Rebels were two more games in a row, with a game set for Thursday, April 30 at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton and Friday, May 1, hosting Southland.
This week they play at Maple River on Monday, May 4.
Lyle/Pacelli 2, USC 0
The United South Central Rebels baseball team played well against the Lyle/Austin Pacelli Athletics on Saturday, April 25, in a game played at Wells. But, in the end, the Rebels suffered a close loss, falling 2-0 to the Athletics.
Lyle/Austin Pacelli got their two runs in the top of the second inning, and it was the only scoring in the entire game.
The Athletics outhit the Rebels 6 to 2. It was a hard-fought game the entire way.
Mason Haugh pitched the first five innings and gave up the two runs and three of the Athletics hits. He walked two batters and struck out 10 of them.
Riley Stevermer came in to pitch two innings, giving up no runs, no walks and recording two strike outs.
Mason Atchley and Drew Bullerman had the two hits for the Rebels.
USC 4, Randolph 3
It came down to the wire on Friday, April 24, as the United South Central Rebels grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 4-3, over Randolph.
The game was tied at three in the bottom of the seventh when Rylan Clay singled, scoring one run.
The game started with two scoreless innings and then Randolph went ahead 1-0 in the third.
After two more scoreless innings, Randolph scored two runs in the top of the sixth for a 3-0 lead, However the Rebels came back and scored one run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 3-1.
After holding Randolph scoreless in the top of the seventh, the Rebels came firing back in the bottom of the seventh inning after Kolt Bullerman tripled to left field, Mason Atchley singled, and Clay singled to center field, each scoring one run.
That gave the Rebels the walk off 4-3 win.
Atchley earned the win for the Rebels. The hurler surrendered one hit and zero runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking none.
Mitchell Meyer had started on the mound for the Rebels. The pitcher surrendered seven hits and three runs over five and one-third innings, striking out three and walking three.
Clay led USC with two hits in three at bats. Atchley, Clay, Bullerman, and Drew Bullerman each drove in one run for the Rebels.
Blooming Prairie 6,
USC 0
While both teams had six hits, Blooming Prairie turned theirs into runs and the United South Central Rebels had trouble scoring runs.
The Awesome Blossoms won the game 6-0. They scored two runs in the second, one in the fourth and three in the sixth.
Rylan Clay led the Rebels in hitting going 2-for-3 at the plate. Mason Haugh, Kolt Bullerman, Drew Bullerman and Seth Kayser each got one hit, with Drew Bullerman nailing a double.
Riley Stevermer was the starting pitcher for the Rebels. He pitched four innings, gave up three runs on five hits. Clay came in for one and two thirds innings and gave up three runs on one hit, and one strikeout. Colson Rauenhorst came in for a third of an inning and had one strikeout.
