Rebels now 9-1 after loss to Rockets

The United South Central softball team took on the Hayfield Vikings on Wednesday, April 29 and came out with a 6-0 win.
The game had been scheduled for Monday, April 27, but was postponed due to weather.
The Rebels took an early lead of 1-0 at the end of the first inning, and never looked back. They scored three more in the fifth inning and two more in the seventh, while shutting down the Vikings.
The Rebels out hit the Vikings 10 to 1.
USC was led by Mariah Anderson who was 2-for-3 at the plate and Ivy O’Rourke and Alivia Bruegger who were both 2-for-3 batting. One of Bruegger’s hits was a triple.
Brielle Obermeyer, Grace Walton, Carissa Hanson and Izzy Bird all had a hit in the game.
Anderson pitched all seven innings and gave up just the one hit and no runs, no walks and had 19 strike outs in the game.
Ella Bamlet pitched for the Vikings and gave up the six runs on 10 hits, walked one Rebel batter and struck out seven.
The next action for the Rebels was a game scheduled for Thursday, April 30 when they were to host Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton.
This week they are playing Maple River on Monday, May 4 and Kenyon-Wanamingo on Thursday, May 7.
USC 10, Sleepy Eye 3
The United South Central Rebel girls softball team got off to a slow start when they faced the Sleepy Eye Storm on Tuesday, April 28, in Sleepy Eye.
Both teams were scoreless in the first inning, and both teams scored a single run in the second inning for a 1-1 tie.
Then in the third inning Sleepy Eye scored two runs to take a 3-1 lead.
USC then exploded for five runs in the fourth inning, two in the fifth and one each in the sixth and seventh innings, while holding the Storm scoreless the rest of the game.
Final score was USC 10, Sleepy Eye 3.
The Rebels had 10 hits in the game while the Storm had just two, but one of their two was a home run.
Mariah Anderson led the way at the plate for USC, going 3-for-4, with one of those hits being a double. She also had three runs batted in.
Grace Walton had two hits and Ivy O’Rourke, Olivia Bird, Brielle Obermeyer, Carissa Hanson and Izzy Bird each had one hit, with Obermeyer’s hit being a double.
Anderson also pitched all seven innings and gave up the three runs on two hits, walked four batters and struck out 15.
Taylor Berkner pitched all seven innings for the Storm, giving up 10 runs, 10 hits, while walking nine Rebel batters and striking out seven.
Next up for the Rebels was a home game against Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton scheduled for Thursday, April 30.
This week they are set to play Monday, May 4, at Maple River and Thursday, May 7, at Kenyon-Wanamingo.
Randolph 5, USC 1
The long winning streak by the United South Central Rebel girls softball team came to an end on Saturday, April 25, when they lost to the Randoph Rockets by a score of 5 to 1.
The loss came despite the fact that the Rebels outhit the Rockets 6 to 3. But USC left nine runners on base during the course of the game.
Neither team scored in the first three innings, but then Randolph scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
After a scoreless fifth inning, the Rockets scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Rebels mustered one run in the top of the seventh inning, but that was all, and the game ended at the end of the top of the seventh.
Olivia Bird was 2-for-3 at the plate and Mariah Anderson, Ivy O’Rourke, Alivia Bruegger and Grace Walton all had one hit each.
Anderson’s hit was a double, and she came in to score on a single by Bruegger.
Anderson pitched all six innings and gave up the five runs on three hits, walked four batters and struck out 12. One of the hits was a home run.
Randolph pitcher Amelia Davis pitched seven innings, gave up the one run on six hits, walked three and struck out six. Davis was also the Rocket to hit the home run.
USC 10, Springfield 0
The United South Central softball team jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning and never looked back as they downed the Springfield Tigers 10-0 on Friday, April 24.
The Rebels scored one run in both the third and fourth innings and three more in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game.
The Rebel sluggers out hit the Tigers 15-0, and USC’s pitcher, Mariah Anderson, had a perfect game with no runs, no hits, no walks and 12 strikeouts.
Ivy O’Rourke led the way at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double. Anderson, Grace Walton, Brielle Obermeyer and Reanna Obermeyer all had two hits, with Reanna Obermeyer hitting a double and Anderson a triple.
Tiger pitcher Regan Beadlell gave up the 10 runs on 15 hits and walked one batter and struck out two.
USC 10,
Blooming Prairie 0
The United South Central softball team had one big inning at the plate and downed the Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms 10-0 on Thursday, April 23, in a game played in Wells.
The Rebels scored one run in the first inning and neither team scored in the second.
But then the Rebel bats exploded and the team scored nine runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Grace Walton led the way going 2-for-2 with one of those being a double. Reanna Obermeyer had one hit, but it was a double.
Mariah Anderson Ivy O’Rourke, Olivia Bird, Reanna Obermeyer and Hannah Niebuhr all had a hit in the game.
Anderson had another perfect game on the mound, allowing no runs, hits or walks, and striking out 12 batters.
Blooming Prairie’s Aubree Johnson took the loss and gave up 10 runs on seven hits, five walks and had one strikeout. Raylee Miner came in for one and a third innings and gave up no runs, one hit, one walk and struck out one Rebel batter.
